The Red Sox and WEEI have their sites on a replacement to Dave O’Brien in the play-by-play booth: According to several industry sources, the job has been offered to Tim Neverett of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Neverett, a 49-year-old Nashua, N.H., native and Emerson College graduate, has been a member of the Pirates’ play-by-play team since 2009.
Neverett has not accepted the job, one source stressed, but he was in Boston this week meeting with the Red Sox and with officials from Entercom, which owns 93.7 WEEI, the longtime flagship station of the Sox’ extensive radio network.
The job opened following the end of the 2015 season, when O’Brien stepped down to become the new television voice of the Red Sox on NESN, replacing Don Orsillo.
