HOUSTON — In the moment, it was Mookie Betts who had the Red Sox holding their breath. But in the end, it was Dustin Pedroia going for X-rays after last night’s 6-5 win against the Houston Astros.
Pedroia was hit by a pitch in the back of his ribcage near the left latissimus muscle. He stayed in initially, but Josh Rutledge moved from third base to second to replace Pedroia in the ninth inning.
“It continued to swell and tighten up, so he was losing a lot of range of motion with the left arm,” manager John Farrell said.
