Red Sox notebook: Tyler Thornburg continues to insist shoulder program plays into injury

FORT MYERS — Yes, the Red Sox’ shoulder program is a factor in Tyler Thornburg’s injury, the reliever reiterated again yesterday.

The previous day, manager John Farrell and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski went on the attack, blaming writers for discussing the shoulder program as a contributing factor to Thornburg’s issues. But Thornburg echoed the comments he first made three weeks ago when he said the shoulder program was a contributing factor.

“If anything, it might have fatigued my arm a little bit before the first outing,” Thornburg said. “Or it possibly could’ve pointed out some weaknesses in my shoulder or something that wasn’t working properly.
