Red Sox notebook: Steven Wright on disabled list with knee injury

The Red Sox need a new starting pitcher for Thursday.

Steven Wright is going on the disabled list with a left knee sprain. It’s an issue that’s affected the knuckleballer for weeks, but it became a significant problem during the weekend.

Brandon Workman will be recalled from Triple A to fill the roster spot.

“It was (Sunday) he felt it more than anything,” manager John Farrell said after last night’s 5-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. “He didn’t feel it during his outing against the Cubs. This is somewhat of an ailment in the knee he’s been feeling on and off since spring training, but to the extent of this, this really crept up (Sunday).
