BOCA RATON, Fla. — In separate trades over the past 16 months, Dave Dombrowski has acquired veteran reliever Joakim Soria and sent him packing.
Now, it seems, they could be primed for a reunion.
Dombrowski led Red Sox officials into a meeting with Soria’s agent Tuesday night at the general managers’ meetings at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, a major league source confirmed yesterday. And while it doesn’t appear that anything is imminent, the sides have mutual interest, with the Sox seeking a late-inning reliever and Soria looking for a multiyear contract (likely three or four years, according to the source) to pitch for a contending team.
