Red Sox notebook: Sam Travis’ first try in outfield goes OK

JUPITER, Fla. – A fourth inning sacrifice fly to left field couldn’t have been any more routine, except for the guy who casually put himself in position to catch it.

It was Red Sox first base prospect Sam Travis, getting his first outfield exposure of the spring.

“They tagged on him and that was actually a good throw,” manager Alex Cora said. “We’ll keep moving him around, making him as versatile as possible, and that’s going to benefit us.”

Travis played one game in left field this winter, and he played it a little bit in college and summer ball.
