SARASOTA, Fla. — That Eduardo Rodriguez is going to take the mound today in Fort Myers, with more than a month to go before the regular season opens at Fenway Park, is a dodged bullet for the Red Sox after the pitcher suffered a knee injury in Venezuela during winter ball.
The knee is now an afterthought.
“We monitor his knee,” Sox manager John Farrell said. “But the way he’s gone about all the pitcher drills, there’s been no reluctance to turn a pitch loose. So he’s got maintenance work he’s got to do with it, but as far as the view of him going out to take the mound, that’s behind him.
