NEW YORK — David Ortiz moved past Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff on the all-time home run list yesterday, lasering a ball off the right-field facade.
The homer was his 28th of the season and No. 494 for his career, moving Ortiz into sole possession of No. 27 on the all-time home run list.
“Getting old, man,” said Ortiz with a chuckle after the 5-4 loss to the Mets at Citi Field. “I heard about Lou Gehrig when I was a kid. Now, being part of the game, your name right next to historical people like that, it’s great, it’s an honor.
