Slowly the picture is getting clearer with Carson Smith, and the Red Sox hope to have the reliever soon in game action.
But before that, there’s still work to do.
Sox manager John Farrell said before last night’s 8-3 loss to the visiting Detroit Tigers, the club is targeting Smith’s next simulated game for tomorrow at Fenway Park. Depending upon how that goes, the club hopes Smith’s next step would be a rehab assignment.
Smith faced live hitters Saturday for the first time since having Tommy John surgery in May 2016. During that simulated-game session, he threw 25 pitches.
