Red Sox Notebook: Brock Holt gets a breather

NEW YORK — Hitting .211 with 13 strikeouts and just one walk in 16 games since the All-Star break, Brock Holt was held out of the Red Sox’ lineup for their series finale vs. the Yankees last night.

Holt, who has been playing second base in place of the injured Dustin Pedroia, has shown some fatigue in his swing, Sox manager John Farrell believes. Recently acquired infielder Josh Rutledge earned the start at second in Holt’s absence. (Holt appeared as a pinch runner in the ninth inning of last night’s 2-1 loss to the Yankees.
