NEW YORK — An inside-the-park home run by Blake Swihart in the 10th inning ignited the Red Sox to a hard-earned and twice nearly lost 6-4 victory over the streaking Mets last night.
Swihart’s swat, which actually should have been ruled a home run, bounced high and hard off the center-field wall before slipping past center fielder Juan Lagares. (The Sox would have challenged the non-home run ruling.)
Swihart’s blast broke a 3-3 deadlock. The speedy Swihart could have scored standing up but opted to slide. Josh Rutledge and Xander Bogaerts padded the lead with an RBI apiece, and those runs proved vital.
