Red Sox starter Matt Barnes showed more promise than he did in his first start of the season.
But Barnes made several key mistakes and Kansas City took advantage, halting the Red Sox’ winning streak at four games last night with a 6-3 victory at Fenway Park.
The Sox made it interesting with their last gasp. Down 6-2 in the ninth, Mookie Betts reached on a fielder’s choice with two outs and moved to second on a Pablo Sandoval walk. Xander Bogaerts buzzed a line-drive single through the middle to score Betts and bring David Ortiz to the plate representing the tying run.
