Red Sox notebook: Andrew Benintendi gets an education in outfield throwing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Andrew Benintendi covers plenty of ground in the outfield and is learning to play The Wall at Fenway Park, but improved throwing has been a focus since spring training. The Red Sox are starting to see the on-the-job training pay dividends.

“No different than when Mookie (Betts) came up and transitioned (from second base) to the outfield,” manager John Farrell said. “You have a little bit of hesitation or an extra step and the baserunner is off for another 90 feet. The game is the greatest teacher that we have. Through his experiences, he’s doing a better job.
