The Red Sox have begun to address the brain drain of recent days — former general manager Mike Hazen hired Amiel Sawdaye to be his assistant GM in Arizona — by promoting from within, naming Eddie Romero a senior vice president and assistant general manager. Both he and Brian O'Halloran, who has the same title as Romero, will report directly to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
As part of the re-shuffling, the Red Sox will not name a new GM "at this time," a nod, for now, to the prevailing notion that the traditional definition of a general manager no longer represents an accurate reflection of duties in the Red Sox organization, where Dombrowski is in charge of baseball decisions.
