Yet another reputed Red Sox target is off the board, after Teoscar Hernandez and his sorely needed right-handed power signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. But, according to sources, the team has pivoted and is now “aggressively” pursuing former World Series MVP Jorge Soler. Soler’s pull-side power would play very well in Fenway Park and he’s much better at getting on base than Hernandez, so he may be a better offensive fit for the team, anyway. What the Sox would lose in moving from Hernandez to Soler is defensive value, as Soler, like a few other players already on the Red Sox roster, is best suited to be a DH.
