Is it remotely possible that Lucas Giolito returns some time this season? The starter didn’t undergo Tommy John surgery, but a lesser procedure that can be thought of as “Tommy John Lite.” He apparently feels so good that he wants to start throwing next week and would like to return to a mound some time before next season. Not going to rain on his parade, but that is extremely unlikely. (Gio Rivera, NESN)
But there is one new face (arm?) who will be joining the Red Sox rotation imminently: Josh Winckowski. After making a spot start against the Pirates this weekend, Winckowski is expected to remain in the rotation for the next couple of weeks as the Red Sox manage the returns of Nick Pivetta and Garrett Whitlock.
