Red Sox name Mike Hazen new GM

New Red Sox boss Dave Dombrowski has hired a new general manager - and stayed inside the Red Sox family to do it.

The team named former Ben Cherington assistant Mike Hazen as GM on Thursday.

Hazen, who has been with the Red Sox since 2006, served as the assistant GM under Cherington this season.

Dombrowski, who took over as president of baseball operations in mid-August when Cherington left the Red Sox, said at the time he intended to hire a GM to complement his role overseeing the team.
