Red Sox name Larry Lucchino President/CEO Emeritus

It's been known for over a month now that Larry Lucchino would be stepping down as president of the Red Sox, with COO Sam Kennedy stepping into the role.

The Red Sox today announced a new role for Lucchino — that of President/CEO Emeritus. That move and Kennedy's official ascension to club president will become efffective on Oct. 16.

The Red Sox said, in a statement, that Lucchino's new role will have him be an "active particpant in the strategic direction of the franchise" and that he will "participate in various issues facing Major League Baseball." The club said that Lucchino will remain a member of the ownership group as well.
