Red Sox morning notes: Steven Wright unlikely to open season

FORT MYERS – Brian Johnson makes his spring debut this afternoon, and it’s looking more and more like the Red Sox might actually need him in their starting rotation at the end of camp.

It seems neither Eduardo Rodriguez nor Steven Wright will be available to open the season.

“It’s looking that way,” manager Alex Cora said.

Both Rodriguez and Wright are recovering from knee surgery. It’s been long expected that Rodriguez would open the season on the disabled list – he’s not scheduled to throw his first bullpen until next week – but there was hope that Wright might be ready to go from the very beginning.
