NEW YORK (AP) — J.A. Happ had two recent conversations with Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who bypassed the 37-year-old left-hander the previous time through New York’s rotation.
“Nobody wants to get skipped. I want to be out there and pitch every five days. I feel like I should be,” Happ said, explaining matter-of-factly the second talk did not go well. “There was no argument, and nothing bigger than that. It was just I didn’t expect it, I guess.”
Happ pitched three-hit ball over 5 2/3 innings. Mike Ford drove in three runs and the Yankees beat Boston 4-2 Sunday night for their ninth straight victory over the reeling Red Sox.
