NEW YORK – The most obvious candidate to become the next Red Sox manager interviewed with the team earlier today.
Former Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, whose connection to Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowksi dates back to their time together in Detroit, completed a formal interview for the Red Sox job. Dombrowski confirmed that the interview in an email to the Herald.
The team interviewed Astros bench coach Alex Cora on Sunday. Dombrowski would not comment on a report from Ken Rosenthal that the team has asked permission to interview Diamondbacks bench coach Ron Gardenhire.
