PORT ST. LUCIE — The Red Sox scored twice — one of the runs was earned — in their five innings today against Mets starter Noah Syndergaard, one of their best and most formidable tests yet this spring.
They tallied six hits (and struck out five times) in their 9-4 victory. Xander Bogaerts doubled to center and was knocked in for the first run by Travis Shaw (triple) in the fourth inning.
“You're talking about a guy with four premium pitches, the ability to be a dominant type starter at the big-league level and I thought we swung the bats well against him today,” said manager John Farrell.
