Boston has clinched its first playoff berth since 2013 thanks to its 6-4 victory over Tampa Bay on Saturday evening.
The victory gives the Red Sox 91 wins for the season and secures them at least a spot in the American League Wild Card Game, to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 4. If the Blue Jays surpass the Red Sox to win the AL East, Boston's worst-case final win total of 91 would still place the Sox in a Wild Card Game with either Cleveland or Detroit. If the Orioles get to 91 games to tie the Red Sox atop the AL East, they will have won three games against the Blue Jays to do so, meaning the Blue Jays would finish with fewer than 91 wins.
