Red Sox equipment truck leaves Fenway for Fort Myers minus power bats

The composition of the Red Sox' Opening Day roster is very much up in the air but one thing is certain: the Red Sox' equipment truck is on its trek to Fort Myers.

Packed to the gills with baseball necessities such as 20,400 baseballs, 1,100 bats, 20 cases of bubble gum and 60 cases of sunflower seeds, Milford native Al Hartz pulled the 53-foot truck away from Van Ness Street mid-day today and is expected to complete his 21st consecutive journey on Thursday.

Before he drove off, Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy and Chairman Tom Werner addressed how the Red Sox have been unable to cross off the item at the top of their packing list: a power hitter.
