Red Sox lefthander David Price left his start against the Marlins on Wednesday night after a liner back up the middle caught him on the inner arm at the base of his pitching hand. The Sox announced the injury as a left wrist contusion and said that Price will receive further evaluation.
Austin Dean’s 102.6-mile-per-hour liner caught Price with enough force that it careened all the way to first baseman Steve Pearce. Pearce flipped the ball to Price, who covered the bag, for the final out of the inning, but the pitcher went straight into the dugout tunnel on his way off the field and did not return to the mound, with Hector Velazquez entering the game for the top of the fourth inning.
