Well, this one didn’t take long. Late last night (or early Wednesday morning if you want to be technical about it) the Red Sox brought back one of the players they had just non-tendered. Only a little more than 24 hours after letting Marco Hernández hit the open market, they have brought the infielder back. Robert Murray of the Athletic was the first to report a deal had been struck.
That Hernández was non-tendered at all was a surprise to most of us. It’s not that the infielder was so good that he had to be kept, but he was relatively young, was coming off a major injury, has some upside and fills a need for this roster.
