Ruben Amaro Jr. will swap his executive's suit for a Red Sox uniform, as the the former Phillies general manager officially became the new first base coach for the team today.
Amaro, 50, spent the last 10 years as Philadelphia's GM, a tenure that included a victory in the 2009 World Series and three division titles. The Phillies dismissed him last month.
“I am truly honored to join the Red Sox, a first-class organization with a tremendous history,” said Amaro in a statement. “I was honored that (Red Sox president) Dave (Dombrowski) and (manager) John (Farrell) would consider me for this opportunity and add me to this dynamic coaching staff.
