BOSTON -- The diversification of the Boston Red Sox's bench continued Friday with the addition of super-utilityman Michael Martinez.
One day after acquiring veteran infielder Aaron Hill from the Milwaukee Brewers for two minor leaguers, the Red Sox sent cash to the Cleveland Indians for Martinez, a 33-year-old switch-hitter who was designated for assignment last weekend. Martinez is expected to join the Red Sox over the weekend, likely in time for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.
