Red Sox add INF Marco Hernandez, RHP Pat Light and LHP Williams Jerez to 40-man roster

The Red Sox tweaked their 40-man major-league roster this afternoon, adding three and subtracting two in order to fill the roster at 40.

Added to the major-league roster were infielder Marco Hernandez and right-handed pitcher Pat Light, both moving off the Triple-A Pawtucket roster. were selected to the major league roster from Triple-A Pawtucket. Also joining the roster was left-handed pitcher Williams Jerez, from Double-A Portland.

The three players are now protected from being selected in the Rule 5 draft next month at the winter meetings in Nashville.

Leaving the ballclub is right-handed pitcher Anthony Varvaro, now a free agent after being outrighted.
