BOSTON -- The Red Sox continued a recent wave of significant roster moves on Friday by not only activating catcher Christian Vazquez, but also optioning Blake Swihart to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Swihart spent most of 2015 as the primary catcher for the Red Sox, and he maintained that role for the start of '16.
Infielder Marco Hernandez was recalled from Pawtucket to fill the roster spot vacated by outfielder Rusney Castillo, who was optioned to Triple-A after Wednesday's game.
Vazquez finished 2014 as Boston's starting catcher, and he was expected to hold down the role again at the start of last season.
