When you look at the Red Sox, what do you see?
Believe it or not, team officials still see a playoff contender.
So, by the time general manager Ben Cherington made his weekly appearance on flagship radio station WEEI yesterday morning and pledged to continue “to work to get to the team that we believe we are actually closer to than many believe,” the decision already had been made to send struggling No. 5 starter Joe Kelly to Triple A and replace him with Justin Masterson rather than calling up prospect Brian Johnson.
After all, it’s difficult enough for a team to contend with one rookie in Eduardo Rodriguez in the starting rotation.
