MINNEAPOLIS -- Carlos Peguero won't have to travel far to join the Red Sox.
But can he help them?
The Sox acquired Peguero today in a cash transaction with the Texas Rangers, who designated the lefty-hitting outfielder for assignment last week. He will meet the team in Texas, where the Sox open a four-game series Thursday night.
It's unclear how the Sox see Peguero fitting into the outfield mix, although it's conceivable he could be used as a platoon partner in right field with either Rusney Castillo or, when he returns from his latest stint on the disabled list, Shane Victorino.
