The Red Sox added a third catcher to their 40-man roster on Friday.
Boston acquired catcher Tyler Heineman from the Mets in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced.
Heineman, 32, appeared in 22 games between the Pirates and Blue Jays in 2023. He batted in all 22 and caught in 20 of them.
The switch hitter saw 42 games of minor league action last season for the two teams’ Triple-A affiliates. Heineman batted .230 in 135 at-bats and caught in 41 of those contests.
