Red Sox 6, Pirates 2: Travis Shaw making case for regular at-bats

BRADENTON, Fla. -- After an unspectacular turn in Triple-A, Travis Shaw came to the big leagues last season and hit 13 home runs in 226 at-bats for the Boston Red Sox.

Now, he's out to prove it wasn't merely a fluke.

Shaw picked up two more hits, including a two-run, opposite-field home run in the first inning, to help the Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at McKechnie Field on Wednesday. He has eight hits and two walks in 16 spring training plate appearances, and while he can't take that with him into the season, the infielder certainly is making a compelling case to be in the lineup on a regular basis.
