Rafael Devers homers for first career major league hit

SEATTLE -- Dave Dombrowski won't have much of a choice now.

Sending Rafael Devers back to the minors is no longer a sensible option.

On Wednesday afternoon, the youngest player in the major leagues took one of the better swings the Red Sox have seen in weeks, as Devers connected on a 2-1 fastball to the outer part of the plate and crushed it well over the fence in left-center.

The solo shot was registered at 427 feet. Hanley Ramirez is the only Red Sox hitter whose average home run travels further.

Devers went 0-for-4 in his major league debut Tuesday night, but drew a pair of timely walks -- one of which sparked a three-run inning -- and made every difficult play at third base.
