I don’t even know what to say. This is one of the wildest, most absurd stories I can remember. In a day that has been filled with the wrong kind of stories on MLB’s Opening Day, including a team being homeless and a young star testing positive, they have added a new wrinkle. Literally three hours before the start of their season, MLB has an agreement with the Players Association to expand the postseason from 10 to 16 teams. ESPN’s Marly Rivera was the first to report this.
The union has approved the agreement discussed with MLB for expanded playoffs, only for the 2020 postseason; that agreement is now subject only to ratification by the owners, sources tell ESPN.
