MIAMI -- The latest target the Red Sox have for Dustin Pedroia, who is dealing with a right hamstring strain, is for the second baseman to resume baseball activities in the final week of August.
That is a couple of weeks later than originally anticipated.
"There's been more emphasis on just targeting the strength phase and building up his physical base," said manager John Farrell. "I know we talked about Detroit being the target date for some baseball activity. With all the information that's been gathered on [Pedroia] and everyone weighing in on him, there was a high level of comfort to send him back to Boston and focus solely on gaining some strength in that hamstring.
