Pedroia returns to DL with left knee inflammation

The Red Sox placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the 10-day disabled list with left knee inflammation on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the team recalled first baseman Sam Travis and left-handed pitcher Bobby Poyner from Triple-A Pawtucket.

This is the Pedroia's second stint on the DL. He spent the majority of April and May rehabbing from left knee surgery. The veteran was reinstated on May 25 and played in three games. He went 1-for-11 (.091) with two walks and a run scored.

Pedroia's injury is a another blow for the Red Sox, whose 39 wins heading into Saturday are the most in the Majors.
