The debate on Pedro Martinez’ place in the pantheon of Red Sox pitching greats is a worthwhile endeavor. Strong cases can be put forth for not only Martinez but also Cy Young, Roger Clemens and Luis Tiant, to name a few.
But there is no debate about who had the biggest, brightest and best personality – and the biggest mouth.
That’s Martinez, in a landslide of verbal bouquets.
As his charismatic orbit re-enters the Red Sox realm this weekend when he is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, no doubt he will say something to not only remind us of how he was like a bubble machine when it came to uttering unforgettable quotes, but also how the plug has been pulled on recent and current Red Sox teams when it comes to players willing to tell it like it is.
