PawSox owners pitch idea for ballpark to state commission

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The new owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox have submitted a proposal to the commission that owns the land they're eying for a ballpark.

Principal owner James Skeffington and co-owner Larry Lucchino, president of the Boston Red Sox, made their pitch Monday at a meeting of the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission. They were accompanied by a team of consultants who say the former highway land is the perfect site for an urban minor league ballpark.

But Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor says he and the commission want to make sure the deal makes sense for taxpayers.
