It’s been no easy week off for Pablo Sandoval, who has been kept at home while the Red Sox have been playing at Fenway Park since Monday.
Sandoval has pneumonia, the Red Sox found out on Thursday. Sandoval had been missing time with what was described as a serious upper respiratory infection, but doctors learned it was pneumonia after they re-assessed Sandoval’s illness late on Wednesday.
He was kept at home again on Thursday and the Red Sox are uncertain when he might return.
“He’s at home resting, trying to get comfortable, and on Saturday he’ll be re-evaluated,” interim manager Torey Lovullo said.
