NEW YORK -- Having already sent Hanley Ramirez home for the duration of the season, the Red Sox don't expect Pablo Sandoval to rejoin them before Sunday's finale.
Interim manager Torey Lovullo said today it's "unlikely" Sandoval will meet the team in Cleveland on Friday, the third baseman still dealing with symptoms related to pneumonia. Sandoval hasn't played since Sept. 20 in Toronto.
"He's being evaluated still by our doctors in (Boston) and still showing signs of the pneumonia," Lovullo said. "Improving, but it's to the point where, to resume all baseball activities would be very challenging for him.
