According to FanGraphs the Red Sox have a 0.4% chance of making the playoffs. All of it relies on the Sox essentially winning the rest of the way while the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, and Seattle Mariners all fumble to various degrees.
Essentially the Sox are a bit like Wile E. Coyote running off the edge of a cliff in a cloud of dust. As long as they keep winning (or for Mr. Coyote, not looking down) this thing is still alive.
