OTM Open Thread 3/28: Big Wilyer Style

Related Topics: Wilyer Abreu

Well, that was a fun way to open the season. Wilyer Abreu was the forgotten man of Red Sox spring training — not just because many of the fans had already traded him in their minds to make room for Roman Anthony, but also because he literally missed most of it with a nasty GI bug, playing in only six games before the Sox opened in Texas. But yesterday he reminded everyone that, oh yeah, he just put up a 3.4-win season and won the damn Gold Glove as a rookie. For as much hype as the Big Three have gotten over the past several years (including the iteration of the Big Three that included Kyle Teel prior to Kristian Campbell’s emergence) there’s a decent chance that Abreu ends up being just as valuable if not more so than any of them.
