Opponent of proposed PawSox stadium to submit petition

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — An opponent of plans to build a new baseball stadium in Providence for a Red Sox minor league team says he'll be submitting petitions to state lawmakers urging them to reject the proposal.

David Norton told The Providence Journal that about 3,000 people signed the petitions and he plans to hand them in Tuesday at the Statehouse.

The owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox want to relocate the team and build a new stadium in Providence. They have been meeting with lawmakers after their original proposal asking for $120 million in state subsidies was rejected.
