Prior to Tuesday night’s bout against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Boston Red Sox activated Masataka Yoshida off the IL after a short rehab stint in Worcester. The corresponding move was designating Garrett Cooper for assignment.
Thank the baseball Gods.
Since Triston Casas went on the 60-day IL in late-April, we’ve been subject to absolutely TERRIBLE play at first base. Tell me I’m wrong that Garrett Cooper was an NPC in the lineup. The most minor of blips as a transaction, the least noticeable at the plate and the least noticeable in the field. He was a warm body that filled a roster spot.
