Red Sox interim manager Torey Lovullo had pulled all the right strings, matched up five relievers to pitch 4u2154 scoreless innings while the Red Sox battled the Blue Jays like it was a playoff game.
And then he ran out of options.
Even with expanded rosters and deeper bullpens, the Sox had little choice but to turn to Alexi Ogando in the 10th inning of a tie game Tuesday night. Ogando has already allowed 12 home runs this year and was due to face the middle of the Blue Jays’ order. The stage was set for a drive-through disaster.
