TORONTO -- The MRI that Joe Kelly had on his right shoulder produced a best-case scenario: There is no structural damage.
"No structural damage," said interim manager Torey Lovullo. "Great news. Just normal inflammation, fatigue."
No matter what the results were, the Red Sox had already decided Kelly wouldn't pitch again in 2015. He logged a career-high 134 1/3 innings this season, and also threw 19 at Triple-A Pawtucket.
"We felt like he had exceeded the amount of innings that we wanted. He was right at that area," said Lovullo. "The right thing to do was to shut him down.
