Shocking news this afternoon from spring training camp:
Boston Globe sportswriter Nick Cafardo suffered an embolism and collapsed outside the Red Sox's clubhouse, on the sidewalk between the ballpark and the batting cages.
After being attended to by Red Sox medical personnel, Cafardo was taken by ambulance to Gulf Coast Medical Center, but doctors could not revive him.
Cafardo was 62 years old. He had worked for Globe since 1989.
