With Mike Hazen departing the Boston Red Sox to become the executive VP and general manger of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, the Sox now have an opening at the GM position. And as the team mentioned in its statement regarding Hazen, the search for a replacement is already underway.
In the immediate aftermath, current senior vice president of baseball operations Frank Wren is the leading candidate for the job, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Wren has plenty of experience in the role, most recently serving as GM of the Atlanta Braves from 2007 to 2014.
